| Gregory
P. Neff
holds the rank of professor of mechanical engineering technology at Purdue
University Calumet (PUC) in Hammond, Indiana. He has graduate
degrees
in mechanical engineering from Michigan
State University, physics, and mathematics from the University
of Michigan. He is a Registered
Professional
Engineer and serves as an engineering consultant. He is also a Certified
Manufacturing Engineer, a Certified Manufacturing Technologist, and
a former Certified Senior
Industrial
Technologist. He was recipient of the Merl K. Miller Award from the
Computers in Education Journal in 1994. Greg has received seven awards
from the Society of Manufacturing
Engineers. He is listed in recent editions of Marquis
Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science
and Engineering, Who's Who in Finance and Industry (biographies
available
through LexisNexis™), Madison's Who's Who, and
Strathmore's
Who's Who.
He
currently serves on the
board of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Calumet
Senior Chapter 112 as Education and Certification Chairman (since
1987) and was formerly webmaster. He is Faculty Advisor to SME
Student Chapter 161 (since 1989) and webmaster. He has served
as
national past chair, webmaster, nominations chair, and honors &
Awards
chair for the
Mechanical
Engineering Technology Department Head Committee (METDHC) of the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He also served the
METDHC as
national
chairman in 2001-2002 and national vice-chair responsible for METDHC
technical
sessions at the 2001 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and
Exposition in New York and national secretary in 1999-2000. He
served ASME as regional representative and webmaster for Region
VI on the executive committee of the METDHC. He is a member
of
the design education committee of the
design
division of ASME. He served as a member of the ASME
Board on Engineering Education 2001-2003. Greg has represented ASME as an
MET accreditation program evaluator or team chair visiting twelve
schools between 1996 and 2006 and served as a member of the ASME
Committee
on Technology Accreditation from 2002 to 2006. He served on the
Technology
Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation
Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET) as an ASME Commissioner with
a term that started in summer 2003 and continued
as an alternate member through 2006.
A member of
the American
Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Greg
has done several ASHRAE program
accreditation
evaluations and sponsors local student memberships through Northern
Indiana Chapter
103. He is active in the American
Society for Engineering Education and is a member of the Order
of the Engineer. An honorary member of Tau
Alpha Pi, he is a faculty sponsor for MET students.
He has many
publications
which include conference papers, case studies, book
chapters,
journal, trade, and web articles mainly in the areas of computer
applications
and teaching. He is very interested in fostering dissemination of
scholarly
information via the Internet. Greg teaches the MET
161 -- Introduction to Engineering Technology course. He was
awarded a
1997
Microsoft Instructional Lab Grant for software licenses valued at
$76,800
and in 1999 another for licenses valued at $53,950 to support this
course.
He often advises and helps students find senior projects, so is on the
lookout for projects from industry without short deadlines that would
lend
themselves to a design, build, test paradigm.
Professor
Neff served
as chair of the School of Technology Curriculum
Committee from time the school was established until 2003-2004 and
continues as a member. Before then he
was
chair of the School of Professional Studies Curriculum Committee.
In 97-98 was also chair of the University Curriculum Committee. He
served
as chair of the University's
Fitness, Wellness and Sports Committee from 2001 to 2003. In the
past
he has served twice on the Council of Faculty Delegates, three times on
the school senate, and has chaired the bookstore and faculty benefits
committees.
He chaired, coordinated or hosted the regional MATHCOUNTS
competition for junior high schools at Purdue University Calumet every
year for a decade. He has served as a marshal at every PUC
commencement
since 1990. Greg has taught-in or co-directed the
Engineering and Science Summer Program based at Purdue University
Calumet since 1991. This program attempts to
interest largely female and minority middle or high school students in
science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) projects and careers.
Before his
tenure at Purdue
University Calumet, Greg was twice elected to the Board
of County Commissioners of Ingham
County (Michigan) and also served as a Commissioner of the Tri-County
Regional Planning Commission. He was chair of the
non-motorized
advisory council of the Michigan
Department of Transportation, and was twice elected regional
vice-president for Indiana and Michigan of the League of American
Wheelmen
founded in 1880 (now called the League
of American Bicyclists). He is an initiate of the Michigan Iota
Beta
Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
